Way overdue post

Yes, we are months behind. I'm currently converting the holiday card picture in to a belated Happy New Year's card at this point. I'll post some highlight pictures from the holidays in the next couple of weeks, but in the mean time, here's a picture request from Joe today. If all the schooling doesn't pan out in to a fabulous job, Mia's got a headstart in the construction field.

This is an old school Tonka dumptruck that Gigi Lee hunted down for her recently. She has been enjoying pushing it around, loading balls in to it, and figured out the other day how to crawl in it. She's only got a 50% success rate of getting out of it by herself, heh.

On the update side- Mia's four top teeth came in the first 5 weeks of this year, so January was all sorts of fun and excitement. That's a total of 6 now. She's gotten very good at pulling herself up, has stood up by herself a few time this week for 5-10 seconds, and is very adept at walking with her Stride & Ride Lion that Aunt Sue and Uncle Larry gave her, though she has to be the weird one and pushes it from the side against the way it's supposed to go instead of the back. She has been eating a wide variety of tablefood and really loves chicken, cheese and fresh mango chunks. She still loves swimming and bathtime. Traveling in the car has improved, she and I even drove down to Naples by ourselves a couple of weeks ago with maybe a total of 10 minutes complaining each way!

Podbaby

So much for vaccinations going smoothly. While Mia did a great job receiving them, this time around she had a mess of a time afterwards. Starting Friday evening, our sweet, pleasant baby was replaced by a miserable Podbaby. Between the regular soreness from the vaccines, the fever from the flu shot, and the impeding arrival of a second tooth on Monday, our weekend was spent with a poor child who didn't want to eat, nap, play or do anything but be carried around- note that I said carried around, not held. The moment one of us tried to actually sit down to rock her, or nurse her or just hold her, screaming commenced before the butt hit the seat. She cried herself to sleep most of the weekend. On Monday she started to feel better, and by Tuesday the evil PodBaby imposter was completely gone and our daughter was back.

6 months

Mia had her sixth month checkup today. She did exceptionally well, only cried during the shots and for about a minute afterwards. As you can see in the picture above, she sat up all by herself while Miss Linda weighed her. The official stats are:

Weight: 16.1 lbs-65th percentile

Height: 27 3/8 inches- 93rd percentile! she shot up

She meets all of the current developmental skills milestones, and is almost true crawling. She figured out last week to get up on her knees, she just needs to master actually moving her hands at the same time to avoid scooting backwards. Still just one lone tooth, but I'm in no rush for her to have more. She seems to have inherited our seasonal allergies, no shock there, and we're still fighting to keep the eczema in check. With diligent maintenance it's not been too bad since the johnson's lavendar incident. Unfortunately for Georgie, Mia is infatuated with her, while Georgie does not share that sentiment yet. The other day, Mia had wriggled & rolled from one side of the living room to over where Georgie's bed is, and had thrown her arm over the bed to try and touch her. Georgie just looked at me with pitiful eyes and growled in her direction.
